Espen Berg Trio

Espen Berg Trio might be the most happening jazz trio out of Norway today. The trio has chalked up a highly personal path in the broad scene of contemporary jazz piano trios. Berg’s compositions feature an elegant and playful combination of heartfelt melodies and rhythmical complexity, and brings associations to music by Brad Mehldau, Tigran Hamasyan, Shai Maestro and Keith Jarrett. The trio has been declared an important new voice in the crowded field of post-E.S.T. trios (Jazz Journal, UK) and brings the legacy of the piano trio and the Nordic jazz to a new level. Their fourth album was released in May 2022, featuring three prominent guests: Mathias Eick (trumpet), Hanna Paulsberg (sax) and Silje Nergaard (vocal)

Espen Berg Trio has done many tours in Asia and Europe during the recent years, outselling concert halls in Tokyo, Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Kyoto. In 2019, the trio was featured as a part of the Norwegian Night at jazzahead! in Bremen, and their third album, Free to Play, was listed in Downbeat as one of the best releases of the year, also earning solid reviews in BBC (4/5), UK Vibe (5/5), Jazz Journal (4/5).
