MEIRA KUNNING (á enskum):

Irina Hayrapetyan
– Classical & Jazz Pianist | Expert in Talent & Artistic Development

Early Life and Musical Beginnings
Irina Hayrapetyan’s musical path began at just two years old, when she first reached for the piano. By age six, she was accepted into the renowned “Sayat Nova” Music School in Yerevan, Armenia. Her exceptional ability quickly stood out, and at fourteen, she won first prize in the prestigious Frédéric Chopin Competition for young musicians.

World-Class Musical Training
Irina studied with some of the world’s leading piano professors, beginning at the Yerevan State Conservatory and later at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen. There, she trained with José Rivera and Niklas Siveløv. Her training also took her to Israel, where she worked with legendary pianists Victor Derevianko and Nikolai Petrov—an experience that profoundly enriched her musical identity and interpretive depth.  Her performances, particularly in Romantic and 20th-century repertoire, are praised for their emotional richness, clarity, and technical mastery.

From Classical Improvisation to Avant-Garde Jazz

Alongside her classical training, Irina developed a strong foundation in classical improvisation, inspired by the traditions of Bach, Mozart, Debussy, and Messiaen— where spontaneity and structure coexist. This exploration naturally expanded into modern and avant-garde jazz, where freedom, rhythm, and bold harmonic language come alive. Influenced by legends such as Thelonious Monk, Bill Evans, Herbie Hancock, Erroll Garner, Chick Corea, Hiromi Uehara, Tigran Hamasyan, and Keith Jarrett, Irina’s jazz playing is vibrant, richly textured, and deeply expressive. She blends classical form with improvisational fire—bridging centuries of musical language into a sound entirely her own.

Expanding the Artistic Mind
Driven by a lifelong curiosity about the inner life of the performer, Irina has developed a unique, holistic approach to artistic excellence. Her work explores how sound, presence, and creative flow connect—helping artists unlock expression, overcome internal limitations, and reconnect with their artistic essence. She works internationally as a performer, mentor, and seminar leader—guiding musicians, creatives, and professionals to move beyond pressure and perfectionism, and into clarity, confidence, and artistic freedom.
